Psychology Health Solutions

Psychology Health Solutions (PHS) is a leading psychotherapy practice serving the Greater Toronto Area, Hamilton, and Kitchener, with a diverse team of over 45 clinicians providing services in 20+ languages. Their mission is to deliver accessible, inclusive, and transformative mental health support. When PHS approached Novella Creative Co., they sought a website that could:

  • Seamlessly match clients with therapists based on language, approach, or uncertainty about where to start.
  • Respect patient privacy by avoiding external data storage.
  • Showcase the breadth of their services and providers.
  • Reflect their values of human-centred care, inclusion, and accessibility.

As a strategy-first agency, Novella Creative Co. embarked on a research-driven process to create a website that not only met these needs but also elevated the digital experience for every visitor.

The Challange

  1. Privacy-First Functionality: Due to the sensitive nature of mental health care and regulatory requirements, PHS could not use external CRMs or store user data off-site. This meant standard booking and intake solutions were off the table, necessitating a custom, privacy-compliant booking experience.
  2. Diverse User Journeys: PHS’s audience is highly diverse, including individuals who:
  • Know what therapeutic approach they want, but need to find the right provider,
  • Feel uncertain about where to start and need guidance,
  • Have specific language or cultural needs from their therapist.

Each of these user types has different starting points and anxieties, a fact our research underscored as critical for conversion and user satisfaction.

  1. Rich Service Offering & Provider Diversity: With dozens of clinicians and approaches, the site needed to make it easy to find the right match, without overwhelming users. It also had to communicate PHS’s depth of expertise and commitment to accessibility.
  2. Brand Differentiation: PHS wanted a site that felt calm, welcoming, and human. A website avoiding clinical coldness or generic design. It needed to embody trust, warmth, and the transformative power of therapy, as well as the unique story of every user who comes to the site.

The Strategy & Solution

We believe every effective website starts with deep listening and strategic thinking. Before any design or code, we immersed ourselves in PHS’s mission, audience, and operational realities. Our multi-step approach included:

User Research & Journey Mapping: We developed personas based on three core user entry points:

  • The Decider: “I know what approach I want, but need a provider.”
  • The Seeker: “I don’t know where to start.”
  • The Specific: “I need a therapist who speaks my language.”

By mapping these journeys, we designed the homepage’s above-the-fold section to immediately direct each user to a tailored “match” pathway. Reducing cognitive load, minimizing clicks-to-conversion, and making the experience feel personal from the outset.

Custom, Privacy-Compliant Booking Solution: Given the privacy constraints, we engineered a bespoke contact form that never stores sensitive data externally. The form is dynamically pre-populated based on the user’s selections—whether by approach, provider, or language—streamlining the booking process and reducing friction.

SEO-Driven Architecture & Content Strategy: Recognizing the importance of discoverability, we structured the website with dedicated pages indexing providers by language and therapeutic approach. This not only simplifies navigation for users with specific needs but also creates rich category pages that naturally support SEO, helping PHS reach more people seeking care in their preferred language or modality.

Design Philosophy: Elegance, Calm, and Art
Drawing inspiration from 1960s and 70s psychology book covers—where abstract art met bold, approachable typography—we crafted a unique visual identity for PHS:

  • Colour Palette: Warm, subtle tones create a sense of calm and safety, countering the anxiety often associated with seeking mental health care.
  • Typography & Icons: Soft fonts and custom-designed icons add a personal, artistic touch, ensuring every page feels like a valuable discovery.
  • Human-Centred Content & Quotes: Every piece of content, from inspirational quotes to service descriptions, was held to the standard: “Does this reflect our value of human-centred care?” This test ensured that empathy, warmth, and empowerment shone through in every paragraph.

Transparent, Step-by-Step Service Pages: Each service page clearly outlines the process. From matching with a therapist to ongoing support. This demystifies therapy and reduces barriers to entry, and empowers users to take their first step with confidence.

Results and Business Impact

  • Streamlined User Experience:
The new website architecture dramatically reduces the steps required to find and book with a provider, increasing conversions and satisfaction. Tailored entry paths help users feel understood and supported from the outset.
  • Stronger Privacy & Compliance:
The custom booking solution aligns with all privacy regulations, ensuring users’ sensitive information is protected and building trust and safeguarding PHS’s reputation.
  • Enhanced SEO & Discoverability:
Targeted category pages have improved search rankings for therapy services by modality and language, helping PHS connect with diverse communities across Ontario.
  • A Calming, Inspiring Brand Presence:
The site’s design sets PHS apart. It balances professionalism with a sense of humanity. Feedback from both staff and clients highlights how the new look and feel make therapy feel accessible, safe, and inviting.
  • Empowerment Through Clarity:
Transparent process descriptions and human-centred copy have reduced user anxiety and increased engagement, supporting PHS’s mission to make mental health care accessible for all.
